Flying race cars, built by F1 engineers
Formula 1 and fighter jet engineers don't usually share an employer. At Airspeeder, they do. The London-headquartered company runs a racing series for electric flying vehicles, with aircraft built by sister company Alauda Aeronautics and piloted remotely at speeds and G-forces closer to air racing than motorsport. Its engineering team has been recruited directly from McLaren, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar Land Rover, Babcock Aviation and Brabham, and the company has deliberately built a permanent UK engineering base, betting on Britain's dual reputation in motorsport and aerospace rather than choosing between them. Airspeeder's premise is that racing accelerates development the way it always has, only this time the finish line is airborne.
